City of Rockingham
Stardust Circus Protest

Stardust will be in Rockingham from 17th January - 2nd February and we will staging Saturday and Sunday protests.

Remember Perth City has rejected an application for Stardust to tour in 2003 and urges all activists to continue our work until all councils ban circuses that use animals - see story  |  read RSPCA Circus Issue  |  Circus "Quotes"

Please contact office if you require or can offer car pooling to Rockingham & return.

These are the confirmed demo times at Rockingham Oval - bounded by Patterson Rd, Kent St & Flinders Lane - opposite Rockingham Markets (UBD 445 H12)

January
Saturday 18th, 3pm - 4pm
Sunday 19th, 1pm - 2pm
Saturday 25th, 3pm - 4pm (make it to this one) *
Sunday 26th, 1pm - 2pm

February
Saturday 1st, 3pm - 4pm

* Sue Walker MP will be addressing the crowd. Also attending the demo will be Perth City Councillor Bert Tudori who was interviewed on radio 6PR 880 on Tuedsay 21st January at 8.45pm. He commented on Perth City Councils decision and the letter from Rue McClanahan (from the TV show "The Golden Girls") praising the council for its decision. He also stated the council was amazed at the volume of faxes & emails they were receiving from America, Great Britain, New Zealand, Africa and other countries around the world congratulating them.

Remember that many councils will be re-visiting their policies during February, so we really need to keep the issue in the public eye.

Saturday 25th Janaury Demo
Thank you to all the people who came to the demo - it was great to see people from Animal Liberation, Circus Watch WA, Animal Rights Advocates (ARA), People Against Cruelty in Animal Transport (PACAT), other groups and members of the public working together for a common cause - also a big thankyou to Sue Walker (Liberal member for Nedlands - photo1 in white), Bert Tudori (Perth City Councillor) and Lynn MacLaren (Greens - Research officer) for attending the demo and standing with us on this important issue.

Special thanks to CircusWatch WA for their co-organising of demos and lobbying efforts. Animal Liberation campaigns on many issues and welcomes the co-operation of specialist campaign groups. The Rockingham Council is reviewing the issue at it's coucil meeting on the 11th of March. Please contact CircusWatch WA if you can assist with collecting petition signatures before then.
Please note: CircusWatchWA is a seperate organisation from Animal Liberation (WA) Inc - please do not contact CircusWatch WA for matters other than circus issues.

It was a great show of support for the animals - lets keep the pressure on till the councils ban this exploitation of animals.

Note: Perth City Council will not be voting on a ban on January 28th as hoped, however the motion to ban is on the agenda for two weeks after. So we are looking at TUESDAY 11TH FEB 6pm in the council chambers Perth City. Late news, vote postponed till 25th Feb to allow Stardust the right of reply

Approximately 70 people gave up their free time to attend this rally at Rockingham oval.

We had banners & placards facing both the carpark and the ticket office (between us and the bigtop)

February 1st - Well, that's it - another demo over with. Stardust will be in Bridgetown 11th, 12th & 13th of February and in Manjimup on the 14th & 15th.

Perth City should enact a permanent ban on February 11, so please be there to cheer their decison - 6pm, Council House, St Georges Tce, Perth.

Don't forget we have a national get pig sows out of confinement/ farrowing stalls campaign running - "STOP STALLING" - contact the office for details.
