Lennons Circus is touring the north of Western Australia and has added the Shire of Roebourne to their list of shame. Although the Mayor and several Councillors are against the circus coming to town with exotic animals in tow, the numbers weren't there at vote time. The circus continues to claim that they are not being given a fair-go and it was decided to "let the people vote with their feet" - ie regardless of general public opinion being against this exploitation, if some people want to go to the circus, then the circus should be allowed to come to town. If enough people attend for it to be financially viable, then the circus will return - remember that circuses will squeeze every last dollar they can out of these poor animals and that the welfare of the animals comes last. There are many things that are not illegal, but are unacceptable to the general public - should we also apply the same logic to those events and let those that wish to view or participate in these to do so? It is not about the rights of people to see what they want. It is about the 23+ hours out of public view treatment, neglect and deprivation that these animals experience when not "performing"! Please contact the Shire of Roebourne and express your view by post Shire of Roebourne General Enquiries:

Remember Perth City has rejected an application for Stardust to tour in 2003, instituted a ban and urged all activists to continue their work until all councils ban circuses that use animals - see story | read RSPCA Circus Issue | Circus "Quotes" Please contact office if you require information on circuses in Australia.
