Stardust circus (with solitary elephant ARNA) - Demo update

Stardust Circus (with Animals)
is at Ozone Reserve, Perth - from April 12th till the 29th

The circus will be visiting the towns of Bunbury, Bridgetown & Manjimup during May.

Great turn-out for our 17 Perth Demonstrations
held over the past 4 weekends (including Easter)

A big THANKYOU to all who attended and helped protest, especially those who made it to virtually every demo.

Don't forget to let your friends in the South West know the circus is coming. Please contact the office if you require pamphlets for local demonstrations. Phone 9227 0672

Please check back here for updates and pass details to your friends that don't have Internet access.

In addition to the demo's we will also be lobbying the Perth City Council and WA Government,
so keep writing those letters, sending faxes & making phone calls - let our elected officials know your opinion.

Also; the circus is planning a return to Perth, but approval must now go back to Perth City Council - so keep the pressure on.

Thursday - Given it was the start to a Easter long-weekend with late night shopping and lots of people in "escape the City" mode; Animal Liberation had a pretty good turnout, whilst the circus would have wanted a better opening night. Thankyou to all those who held banners, waved placards and handed out pamphlets.

For the City of Perth to ban exotic animal circuses, they have to see and hear us.  Friday, the circus will probably have a bigger turnout, so we should be there in greater numbers too!

Friday - was a good turn-out for Animal Liberation again; the afternoon demo was sunny, if a bit windy and the evening was just chilly. The circus seemed to be having poor attendances, whilst we had thousands of cars driving by on Riverside drive, many tooting their horn for the animals. Thanks again to all who attended the demo.

Saturday - much the same as Friday, not as windy or chilly. Again much support from passing traffic.

Monday - Good turnout for a mid-morning demo, and a much larger turnout for the afternoon which was attended by theWest Australian Newspaper (article) and by the Television Media.
Some photos taken of Monday afternoon's demo

Saturday (April 21st) - Held 2 more demos. Excellent turnout especially the evening show, many more supporters and several new faces. Thankyou to all who attended. Plenty of support from passing traffic.

Sunday (April 22nd) - Not as many people as Saturday, but still a good effort. Thanks to all who gave up this weekend for the benefit of the animals. See you all next weekend.

Saturday (April 28th) - Good turnout, plenty of support from the public and a bit more abuse from the redneck brigade.

Sunday (April 29th) - Another good turnout for what was supposed to be the Final Perth Show. Seems attendances were down, so the circus has decided to take the option of an extra week before moving on to Bunbury & Albany.

Saturday (May 5th) and Sunday (May 6th) - good turnout again for both days. Sunday mornings demo was cancelled due to the heavy rainfall, but the afternoon went ahead as planned. That was their final show in Perth, they are now commencing a tour of the south west, first stop is Harvey.

A Circus in Perth, with animals? But I thought.....
Seems the City of Perth hasn't heard yet and is allowing Stardust Circus to use Ozone Reserve to host a circus using Exotic Animals - Monkeys, Lions and Elephant. (note singular elephant in newspaper advert)

We have organised several protests, but you can also help by contacting the City of Perth to register your disappointment with their decision.

Also contact the Community Newspaper Group as they have decided to promote the event and are running a competition for Free Tickets.

Animal Liberation NSW is taking the Carr Government to court
over allowing Stardust Circus to keep a solitary elephant,
in breach of its own legislation!
