Battery hens spend their entire lives crammed into tiny cages. Each hen
has no more than the size of an A4 sheet of paper. They are unable to
spread their wings and stand on sloping wire floors that cause painful
foot and leg problems. The abrasive cage and pecking of other birds result
in most birds enduring a dreadful loss of feathers. Week-old chicks are debeaked by a hot blade that cuts through the sensitive nerve tissues and causes severe pain. This mutilation makes it difficult for the birds to feed. Hens are fed antibiotics to control disease, caused by the stressed and unhealthy conditions in which they live. If you choose to have eggs, buy only Free Range.
